AMIRAL DUPERRÉ
Sister ships: none
Notes: Breaking with previous designs, the AMIRAL DUPERRÉ was a high-freeboard barbette ship. At its thickest (amidships), the belt was 22" thick, tapering to 16" at the lower edge, and was a minimum of 10" thick from end to end. However, the belt only extended from 6' 7" below the waterline to 11' 6" above; the sides were unarmored. The ship was intended to carry a full rig of sails. Although the waterline was well protected, the AMIRAL DUPERRÉ was considered to be very vulnerable elsewhere, and probably would not have fared well in battle against her contemporaries. She was stricken in 1909 and broken up.
