APOLLO
Sister ships: ABDIEL, ARIADNE, LATONA, MANXMAN, WELSHMAN
Pennant Number: M 01
Notes: A successful class of fast minelayers, also used for such duties as running special cargoes of ammunition to Malta. APOLLO and her sister ARIADNE were built to a slightly modified design than the first four of the class (ABDIEL, LATONA, MANXMAN and WELSHMAN).
Upon entering service in February, 1944, APOLLO was assigned to the 10th Cruiser Squadron, Home Fleet. She took part in minelaying operations off French coast in April-May 1944. Post-war, APOLLO served as a as a flagship and dispatch vessel; during this time, her flag superior was changed from "M" to "N". APOLLO was scrapped in November 1962.
A special "thank you!" to the following on-line source for additional information on the APOLLO: http://uboat.net/allies/warships/class.html?ID=77&navy=HMS
